In a film that should come out on the screens the end of 2021, Gérard Depardieu is going to embody Leonid Brezhnev, the man who, after Nikita Khrushchev, will preside over the destinies of the USSR from 1964 until his death in 1982.

In this historical film, directed by filmmaker Croatian Lordan Zafranovic and the main theme of which will revolve around the events of the Prague Spring of 1968, the sacred monster of French cinema has agreed to take on the difficult role of the soviet leader. Leonid Brezhnev decided to invade Czechoslovakia in order to turn off the attempt of liberalization of the regime led by Alexander Dubcek, the first secretary of the communist party of the country, who dreamed of creating a “socialism with a human face”.

The screenplay, written by the Slovak writer Karol Hlavka, should explore the strong personality of Alexander Dubcek and its historic role in the Prague Spring. The name of the actor who must embody it has not yet been unveiled. But the producer, Andrej Antonio leka on, has already ensured that it had to choose an actor of world-class. It has the means since the budget of the film is a result: according to The Hollywood Reporter , it would be close to ten million euros.
