International human rights organization Amnesty International (AI) called on the Belarusian authorities to refrain from chauvinism and other forms of discrimination against opposition activists. In a statement, human rights defenders noted that Minsk should stop “an aggressive campaign aimed at activists and family members of opposition politicians, which are used misogynists methods”. AI noted that the authorities threaten women out of the encirclement of the opposition. In addition, they are reminded of the “sexist” statement by Alexander Lukashenko. Earlier the President of Belarus spoke out against the country’s new President was a woman. In his words, “the Constitution in the country under a woman.” Later, however, he explained that meant that “our Constitution is such that even man is hard to bear this burden, and if it is loaded at the woman, she collapses, poor guy”.
