What would jazz be if, fleeing nazi Germany, a young Jewish man of 18 years named Alfred Lion had not been able to embark on the last boat to New York city? This passionate swing has chosen to go to the sources of the music he loves. Very quickly, he founded Blue Note Records, whose name refers to the famous blue note, slightly shifted in tone, which marks the style of the blues and of jazz emerging. He teamed up with another fanatic, Berliners like him, Francis Wolff. Lion is responsible for selecting the musicians and Wolff, a photographer, to immortalize them. These two fans have nothing to businessmen. And it is probably for this reason that a style that Blue Note stands out quickly and in this that jazz has resolutely subversive.
