Mr. Martinez proposed to the members of the Confederal Executive Commission (CEC) that Marie Buisson, general secretary of the Ferc-CGT (federation of education, research and culture) succeeds him, added this source, confirming information from the Echoes.

Mr. Martinez, 61, was elected secretary general in 2015. He said last week on France Info that he wanted a woman to come to the head of the CGT “as quickly as possible”, which would be a first for this union.

The second French union will hold its 53rd Congress from March 27 to 31, 2023 in Clermont-Ferrand.

This announcement comes as Force Ouvrière has been holding its congress in the Rouen area since Monday, with in view, except surprise, the election on Friday at the head of the third French union of Frédéric Souillot to succeed Yves Veyrier.

The CFDT is holding its congress from June 13 to 17. Its secretary general Laurent Berger will again be a candidate to lead the first French union, but he plans to hand over during his term of office.
