In the Kremlin reminded of the Soviet practice of presenting a passport

Press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the proposal of the head of state Vladimir Putin to hand over together with the passport copy of the Constitution, recalled the Soviet experience of obtaining a passport. Then, he said, citizens with passport handed over the copy of the Constitution of the USSR.

“Say example: when many years ago in another country — in the Soviet Union, I have received the passport, I then gave the Constitution of the Soviet Union,” TASS quoted Peskov. The representative of the Kremlin believes that “it would be great if it happened now.” “The better people know the Constitution, the better they will be able to defend their rights,” — said Peskov its position.

earlier, Putin following the meeting on 3 July with the working group on preparation of amendments to the basic law mandated the government, in particular, to consider the presentation of the publication of the Constitution in the current edition simultaneously with the passport to the citizens who have reached 14 years of age, and persons who acquired citizenship of the Russian Federation.
