Japan has supported the retention of the G7 format

For Japan, it is essential to maintain the current similarone the G7 format. This was stated by the Secretary-General of the Cabinet of Ministers of Yoshihide Suga, commenting on the recent statement of US President Donald trump that he wants to expand the G7 and connect it to the format Russia, Australia, India and South Korea.

“For our country, I think it is extremely important to maintain the current similarone format. And the question about how to hold a summit I think that the U.S. will agree to do so,” added Suga, he was quoted by The Japan Times. However, he refrained from disclosing details of diplomatic discussions on this issue.

At the same time, the media adds that Japan expressed disagreement with the participation of South Korea in the G7 format, and it can be frustrating for Seoul, who welcomed the offer by the trump.

Earlier, a proposal to expand the G7 supported the us leader Donald trump. He noted that the current membership did not adequately represent the global situation and is “very outdated”. Presence of Russia in the G7, he said, “requires common sense”. Not yet determined when it will host the G7 summit — earlier it was planned that the meeting will take place in June, but because of the pandemic, it was moved. May 30, trump said that the summit could take place in September or even after a U.S. presidential election in November.
