“I almost died a few weeks ago on holiday in Mauritius”, explains the artist, who had still 26 years old at the time. “It was four in a car, a light turned on, it was travelling too fast. We exploded against a pole before twenty meters from head to tail.” An accident that could have cost the life of the rapper and his friends, if the security systems of the car were not triggered: “seat belts and airbags has saved us.” Lomepal concludes almost with lightness, when he admits to have said: “Okay, here it is the end but at least Jeannine (his album, editor’s NOTE) is completed.” Proof, if it were needed, of the importance that he attaches to his work of seventeen pieces which bears the name of his grand-mother. Released on 7 December, he escapes, however, to a nomination for the Victoires de la Musique 2019. In fact, the system behind the awards ceremony only includes the artistic projects of the 30 November of the previous year to December 1 of the year following.

This shared history, we can better understand the release of the rapper on the day of his birthday. On Instagram, Lomepal shared an assembly representative Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Janis Joplin, the famous “club of 27”, that is, these incredible artists missing the year of their 27 years. In the caption, the rapper has ironisé: “It is good my friends I’m coming.” A probably a reference to the unfortunate incident, that the fans were unaware until then.
