At two years almost to the day of the next Olympic Games, Emmanuel Macron gave “an update on the mobilization of state services” during an Olympic and Paralympic Council held in the garden of the Elysée.

Around the table were seated Tony Estanguet, President of the Olympic Games Organizing Committee (Cojo), Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, Ministers Bruno Le Maire (Economy), Gérald Darmanin (Interior) and Amélie Oudéa-Castéra (Sports), as well as a handful of other ministers and actors of the organization.

The objective of this meeting is above all to establish the possible weak points of the 2024 Olympics, the main ones being the budgetary tension linked to inflation and security issues.

After the chaos of the Champions League final at the Stade de France on May 28, doubts have arisen over France’s ability to ensure the security of the Games and the Court of Auditors recently issued an alarmist pre-report to this topic.

In the wake of this meeting, Emmanuel Macron must meet with Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), who was present on Sunday at the arrival of the Tour de France cyclist, on the Champs-Elysées.

Another stage point is planned with the elected officials “at the start of the school year”, with the town hall of Paris, the Ile-de-France region, the elected officials of Seine-Saint-Denis or the French Olympic Committee (CNOSF), said the Elysée.
