In 1985, Miles Davis left Columbia Records to go in Warner. Under this label, he began recording Rubberband , in Los Angeles. It is found in the trumpet, of course, but also on the keyboards. It contacts the singers Al Jarreau and Chaka Khan to collaborate with them. But the project stops abruptly: Miles Davis decided to devote himself to the album Tutu , composed in tribute to Desmond Tutu, anglican archbishop of south africa, Nobel peace prize in 1984.
Thirty years after…
The eleven songs already written remain in the closet until 2017, when producers Randy Hall and Zane Giles, who were already on board Miles Davis in 1985, decided, thirty-four years later, to finalize the album. Vince Wilburn, Jr., the nephew of trumpeter joins them and brings a bond of family. Drummer talent, he had participated in the sessions in the studio, 1985. The stars of R&B Ledisi and Lalah Hathaway complete the casting.
The title of Rubberband is already available for listening. With overtones of soul and funk very marked, it confirms the musical direction adopted by Miles Davis in the 1980s. For nearly 60 years, Davis continued to challenge themselves with each record, incorporated new styles and chose new staff.
