Prime Minister Jean Castex submitted his government’s resignation to Emmanuel Macron on Monday afternoon, who accepted it, the Elysée announced, leaving the field open to speculation betting on a woman to replace him.

Eyes are now turning to the Head of State Emmanuel Macron. He assured a week ago in Berlin that he already knew the name of his next Prime Minister, endowed according to him with a “social”, “ecological” and “productive” profile.

Since then, rumors have been swirling. Only certainty, believes to know his entourage: it will be a woman. Especially since 74% of French people are for it, according to an Ifop poll published in the JDD.

According to concordant sources within the executive, a transfer of power with Jean Castex’s successor as Prime Minister will take place around 7 p.m. on Monday.

After those of the Minister of Labor Elisabeth Borne and the former Minister of Health Marisol Touraine, the name that comes up insistently is that of Catherine Vautrin, former Minister of Social Cohesion of Jacques Chirac, who had given her support to Emmanuel Macron before the 1st round of the presidential election.
