Roizman: Today direct election of the mayor there is almost nowhere in Russia, not capital city just robbed

the Former head of Yekaterinburg Evgeny Roizman signed the people’s initiative to return the direct elections in the city and the Sverdlovsk region. As the politician told to the correspondent “of Rosbalt”, for the restoration of democracy in Russia to restore the election of heads of municipalities is necessary.

“Direct fair elections is the Foundation of a democratic order, the Foundation of local self-government. Today, direct election of the mayor there is almost nowhere in Russia. Moscow to St. Petersburg, I do not take into account, as it is the subjects of the Russian Federation. In today’s situation when the local government nearly destroyed, the city has taken away all the powers they can no longer manage their incomes, they simply robbed,” — said Roizman.

According to him, the opportunity to choose their mayors citizens have been granted by Catherine the Great, and no one had the right to deprive the residents that granted the privilege. “It’s something that gives people the opportunity to feel their responsibility to be involved in city government, to help the elected mayor and point him to the error. All this is possible only if the people chose a mayor. Any elected mayor is focused on those who elected him, any appointee is aimed at those who appointed him,” — said the former head of the city.

Yevgeny Roizman noted that of the residents of the cities of the Sverdlovsk region and Yekaterinburg was formed the initiative group of 40 people — representatives of various political parties and movements. Until September 10, they will collect 10 thousand signatures to the initiative was registered in the legislative Assembly of the region.

“According to our calculations, the project on the direct election support more than 90% of the residents of Yekaterinburg and more than 85% of the area. His fate is of course unknown, but the signature is clearly collected. What happens next is unclear, but even if it doesn’t work, at least it will be clear who is who,” said Roizman.
