Rosstat: Unemployment in Russia rose to its highest level in eight years

the unemployment rate in Russia rose in may to 6.1% after 5.8% in April and amounted to 4.5 million people. About it reports Rosstat.

“In may 2020, according to the assessment using the preliminary results of the selective labour force survey, 4.5 million people aged 15 years and older, or 6.1% of the labor force were classified as unemployed (according to methodology of the International labour organization)”, — stated in the document.

This is the maximum value since March 2012 (when the unemployment rate was 6.3%).

In April 2020, according to Rosstat, unemployment according to ILO methodology was classified 4.3 million people aged 15 years and over.

At the same time registered as unemployed at the employment service of the population, according to the current 2.1 million people, including 1.9 million people were receiving unemployment benefits.

In aperelya the Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin signed the decision about the maximum benefits to the unemployed.

As follows from messages on the government website, “the citizens who lost their jobs after March 1, and applicants to the employment service, in April—June will receive unemployment benefits in the maximum size — 12 130 rubles.”
