Russia refused to cooperate with the UN on Syria

Moscow has informed the United Nations on the termination of cooperation through the system of humanitarian deconflicting in Syria. This was stated by the permanent under Secretary of the UN for humanitarian Affairs mark Lowcock.

“on 23 June, the Russian Federation notified the UN that it will not continue to participate in the system of humanitarian warnings that the UN and its humanitarian partners are used to share information with parties to the conflict,” he said.

the UN wants to discuss this issue with their humanitarian partners in Syria and with Russia.

the purpose of the warnings is to ensure the safety of humanitarian aid by informing the parties to the conflict about the whereabouts of objects or movements.

Lowcock reminded that regardless of participation in the mechanism deconflicting parties to the conflict must comply with international humanitarian law.

Russia’s Decision sparked criticism of the United States. As stated in the UN security Council, the permanent representative of the country in international organizations Kelly Kraft, the refusal of Russia is “absolutely unacceptable,” “dangerous step”.

According to Kraft, the decision “is aimed at creation of new obstacles to humanitarian aid,” was a shock for US. The statement that US sanctions prevented the delivery of humanitarian assistance are “propaganda to divert attention from the lies”, which suits the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, she said.

Earlier, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia warned of the danger that terrorists can take refuge in the objects which they themselves asked to be included in the list deconflicting. The diplomat did not rule out that in some declared humanitarian objects they can hide terrorists “dzhebhat an-Nusra” (banned in Russia).
