Schlossberg: the Case of journalist Prokopieva — sign after the

the court in the case of the Pskov journalist Svetlana Prokopieva, which is accused of justifying terrorism is one of the most notorious trials against freedom of speech in Russia. Such opinion to the correspondent of “Rosbalt” was expressed by an opposition politician, head of the Pskov branch of the Yabloko party and Deputy of the regional Parliament of the Pskov region Lev Shlosberg.

“the fact of institution of criminal proceedings due to the column Prokopieva, which she published after the terrorist attack near the building of the FSB Department in Arkhangelsk, means fear of the FSB before the incident. In fact, everything connected with this tragedy — a taboo subject for the FSB. And Svetlana just put in your column the issue of state responsibility for the fact that the young people instead of live and self-actualize, become terrorists, and it is natural and logical question that arises in the mind of millions,” said Schlossberg.

According to him, the case Prokopieva were completely fabricated: for example, her lawyer proved that the expertise of the Khakass professionals was issued on the forged letterhead of the Khakass University, as evidenced by the response from the University.

“On petition of counsel, the court refused, although it is obvious that non-professional experts to think out and add evidence to the needs of the investigation. These experts should be removed from professional activities, and if proven false the intent of the examination they have to appear before the court. But until we see the actions of the investigation trying to protect these experts, not a desire to legally justify the charge. And it really only means one thing — the destruction of the foundations of the judicial process”, — said the politician.

According to Lev Shlosberg, the case against Svetlana Prokopieva corrupt politically and violates the constitutional foundations of Russia. “Svetlana has made her journalistic work, have exercised their constitutionalonnym the right to freedom of speech. Trying to make a judgment is to put a barrier in front of the freedom of speech in Russia. If it will convict, it will force the media to shut up and stop talking about the attacks related to FSB,” — said the Deputy.

Leo Schlossberg added that this will be the first politically significant decision of the court in a criminal case after the amendments to the Constitution of Russia.

“the Sentence will tell which policy will continue to be in our country after the amendment of the Constitution — although we remember that the second Chapter, which deals with freedom of speech and freedom of the media, has remained intact”, — concluded the Deputy.

Earlier on Friday, the Prosecutor on the court in the case of the Pskov journalist Svetlana Prokopieva, accused of justifying terrorism, demanded to deprive of her freedom for six years and for four years be allowed to work in journalism. She’s being pursued because of the analytical material about the causes of the terrorist attack at the entrance to the building of the FSB Department in Arkhangelsk.
