Free at its launch in 1986 by Larry Harvey in front of the Golden Gate Bridge of San Francisco, the event now held in the Nevada costs 425 dollars entry. This building of 10 metres high and 15 wide, designed by Tyson Ayers is done solely with the boards of pianos. 20.000 piano strings vibrate with the wind, and resound with the sounds produced by the visitors inside.

Symbol of the event, The Man is the heir of the man in the woods built by Larry Harvey and Jerry James in the first edition of the event on the beach at Baker Beach in San Francisco. Each year a new “Man” is built in a different style. Like all facilities, it will be burned up at the end of the event.
