Twenty Cats of the monumental belgian artist Philippe Geluck will be exposed on the avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris from early April to mid-June 2020, told AFP on Tuesday with the artist. “Each piece (base) will measure three meters and will feature the famous cat in various scenes humoristico-poetical-surrealistic,” said the artist in a press release.

“It is by reviewing images of the exhibition Botero on the Champs-Élysées (1992), I said to myself that The Cat is there to feel well, too”, he narrated. “The characters of Botero are big, The Cat is not evil wrapped either. The sculptures of Fernando are in bronze, same with mine. Finally, the painter colombian has put a date to the sculpture, I followed the same approach,” added Philippe Geluck.

We know Geluck for his designs, less for his sculptures. “I’ve been doing it for 25 years, but it knows little, he confided to Europe 1. I put in volume the Cat in 1988 for the first time, in the clay body. This earth is then moulded, it is in fact a wax and then a bronze.”

“We have already done a test in situ, with the establishment of a model light and the reactions were immediate: people stop, the children were ecstatic, said the artist. Through these twenty pieces, I hope to bring to the public the joy, laughter and a certain surrealist poetry that we love so much in Belgium.”
