The former Ombudsman of Chelyabinsk region has sentenced to conditional imprisonment

Central district court of Chelyabinsk has sentenced the former Commissioner for human rights in Chelyabinsk region Alexey Sevastyanov. As reported by former ombudsmen correspondent “of Rosbalt”, it was found guilty of attempted fraud and sentenced to two years imprisonment.

“I asked the judge to take out private definition about the falsification of my criminal case. Unfortunately, this was not reflected either in a separate legal act, or in private definition, so I now intend to apply to the Investigative Committee. I think that in the court, I proved that it was rigged. Will I appeal the sentence? I have to think about the appeal. In Russian reality, when acquittals — a lower percentage, two years probation is actually an acquittal,” — said Aleksey Sevastyanov.

Alexei Sevastyanov was accused of committing a crime under part 3 of article 30 part 4 of article 159 of the RF criminal code (attempted fraud in especially large size). According to investigators, the former Ombudsman, became head of the farm, filed in the regional Ministry of agriculture documents for a grant that contains false information.

the members of the Council under RF President on development of civil society and human rights wrote a letter to the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, which called the charges groundless and reminded that Sevastyanov often came into conflict with the representatives of law enforcement agencies, which caused “hatred” of the security forces for human rights.
