The government has supported the ban on dual citizenship for the Russian ambassadors

For ambassadors and permanent representatives of the Russian Federation proposed to ban the citizenship of a foreign state or residence permit or other document confirming the right of permanent residence there of a Russian citizen. Heads of diplomatic missions are prohibited from acquiring foreign citizenship or residence permit in the period of execution of their duties.

Changes are due to amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation.

According to the CEC, the amendment was voted 77,92% of participants of plebiscite against of 21.27%.
