The Guggenheim museum in New York and seven other buildings of the American Frank Lloyd Wright, the symbols of his “organic architecture”, have been registered Sunday at a world heritage of humanity by Unesco, which praised their “strong impact on the development of modern architecture in Europe”.

All designed and built during the first half of the 20th century in the United States, these buildings “bear witness to the organic architecture developed by Wright, which is particularly distinguished by an open plan, a blurring of the boundaries between the inside and the outside, and the employment of a new material, such as steel and concrete”, Unesco emphasizes in a press release. With its famous curves in white, the Guggenheim museum of New York was inaugurated in 1959.

From Illinois to California, passing through Arizona and Wisconsin, the list is supplemented by seven other buildings designed to be in private housing (such as the “House on the waterfall” in Mill Run, Pennsylvania), “places of worship, of work or recreation”. These works “have had a strong impact on the development of modern architecture in Europe”, underlines Unesco.
The american diplomacy was pleased with the registration by Unesco of a 24th u.s. site on the list of world heritage of humanity, the first in the sphere of architecture. “These buildings show the influence of Wright on the trajectory of architecture in the world”, has welcomed the State department in a press release.
