If Tutankhamun is famous, he must, above all, to his tomb and his treasure. However, on examination, it turns out that his tomb is certainly not one which would have had to be intended and that a good part of his funerary furniture is in origin not hers. The dimensions of the hypogeum are those of a nobleman’s tomb and there is a lack of the essential structures of the royal tombs: no wells, no room pillars, and very few appendices.
clearly, the royal tomb that he had probably started to dig was in such a state of incompleteness at his death that his burial could not be considered, even working without interruption, during the seventy days of mummification. Curiously, the real tomb of Tutankhamun has not yet been identified. May be it’s that of his successor Aÿ? Or, more likely, that of Horemheb, who succeeded in Aÿ, and the extent of which surprises in view of the length of his reign.

For the funeral trousseau, things are less complicated. The royal names of several parts, including two chapels covered in gold, the small coffins to the viscera, but also the golden mask, are visibly overweight, and the traces of the first name correspond to a queen pharaoh that he must recognize the elder sister of Tutankhamun, Merytaton, that her mother, Nefertiti.
Among the exhibits at La Villette, we can certainly assign to this queen pharaoh gold stripes around the mummy, and the small sarcophagus miniature viscera in gold, the statue in golden wood of the king on the panther (where the female breast is indisputable), the cabinet of inlaid wood red semi-circular and one of the composite bows (Carter n° 48-h ; I 61517).

As these assignments undoubted concern only the objects in which the traces of a first owner are clearly discernible, it is obvious that the number of pieces “…” should in fact be much higher, but that changes, carefully executed, are simply not noticeable. In fact, it is very likely that the set of objects to a destination purely funeral to be usurped, even if it may seem strange that this queen pharaoh, who reigned only three years, has been able to build for itself a furniture as sumptuous.
Since the beginning of their reign, the kings received each year gifts new year of the large manufactures of the craft, including Memphis. It was the equivalent of the masterpieces of the companions. There was probably a rivalry between these shops, which have relied on more senior officials of the State and this served, in particular, to fuel the funerary equipment of the pharaoh. The pieces made for the queen pharaoh have simply not been used to it, but stored in the stores of the royal furniture. Ten years later, they have been corrected and re-used for Tutankhamen.
