The Pentagon has confirmed the withdrawal of some troops from Afghanistan

the United States has fulfilled its part of the agreement with the Afghan Taliban (banned in Russia) and brought troops from the five military bases in Afghanistan, said Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman.

According to a statement from Hoffman, currently in Afghanistan remain little more than 8 thousand U.S. military. This corresponds to the terms of the agreement under which the United States had to reduce its forces in the country up to 8,600 people.

At the same time the official stressed that the United States remain “possibilities and powers necessary for self-defense and defense of allies and partners, as well as the national interests of the country.”

According to Hoffman, the parties must now proceed to the inter-Afghan negotiations for the establishment in Afghanistan of lasting peace.
