The new film by the Japanese Hirokazu Kore-eda, The Truth ( The Truth ) with Catherine Deneuve, Juliette Binoche and Ethan Hawke will open, in competition and in the world premiere of the 76th annual Mostra film festival in Venice August 28, announced Thursday the organizers of the festival. Happy with this good news, the film director, palme d’or 2018 for A family affair , responded promptly, via a press release. “I learn with great joy that my new film is selected and will open the competition part of the Festival. I am extremely honoured”, he explained.

In his message, Kore-eda has also noted: “We shot this film in ten weeks last fall in Paris, the casting is prestigious and the film is a story of family in a house. I’ve tried to live my characters in this little universe, with their lies, their pride, their regrets, their sadness, their joy and their reconciliations”.

Often referred to as the filmmaker of the family, Kore-eda has obtained the consecration in 2018, winning the palme d’or at Cannes for A family affair , his thirteenth feature film. Great regular at the French festival, he was presented Nobody knows in 2004, like father, like son ( Like Father, Like His ) in 2013 (Jury prize) and Our sister ( Our Little Sister ) in 2015. It was in competition at the 74th Venice international film Festival in 2017 with The Third Murder .

The 76th edition of the international film festival of Venice will be held from 28 August to 7 September. The jury of the main competition, is chaired by the director of argentina Lucrecia Martel, with, at its sides, eight personalities from the world of cinema and culture. It will present eight awards on 7 September, including the renowned Golden Lion.
