U.S. Navy petty officer spied on Russia

Petty officer us Navy USA Charles Briggs was accused of passing classified information to a citizen of Russia, reports the Virginian-Pilot with reference to the materials of the military court.

According to the newspaper, the accused — IT-officer of the naval medical center in Portsmouth. The consequence considers that it has received the secret data on a government computer at the beginning of January 2019 and handed them over to the foreigner.

the document States that the officer was not informed about his involvement with the citizens of Russia and Italy, gave false information that does not support “close and lasting relationships” with foreigners, and was not informed about his trip to Serbia. He also is charged with obstruction of justice, possession of and viewing child pornography.

Formal charge Briggs to be arraigned on July 22.
