UN: Over 30 years, the world lost 178 million hectares of forest

At the same time, the rate of forest loss declined substantially over the period 1990-2020 years due to the reduction of deforestation in some countries. And the greatest increase in forest area in 2010-2020 were observed in Asia.

Forests cover about a third of the land area that is of 4.06 billion hectares. More than half of all forests (54%) located in five countries — Russia, Brazil, Canada, the United States and China.
