According to a police source, the driver of the scooter, dressed in a bulletproof vest, was traveling in the company of a passenger armed with a “long weapon”. The latter “started to point his weapon in the direction of the police” who fired twice.

Another police source contacted by AFP indicated that, according to the first elements of the investigation, these are “acts of common law, not at all terrorism”.

According to the regional daily Le Dauphiné Libéré, the facts occurred around 6:00 p.m. in front of a post office on Place d’April, in the center of Grenoble.

The area was then completely cordoned off. A security cordon was stretched and in the evening a few dozen residents and passers-by were kept at a safe distance by numerous police officers, noted an AFP journalist on the spot.

The Grenoble prosecutor’s office was to provide more details on the facts in the evening.
