on the night of June 22 in Brest were held commemorative events on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the beginning of the great Patriotic war. They were attended by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.
According to Lukashenko, the feat of garrison of Brest fortress became a symbol of strength of the brotherly peoples and the common heritage of the former republics of the Soviet Union.
“But, unfortunately, not all citizens of these now-independent States see themselves as heirs of the heroic history. … The descendants of the traitors of the truth and its victory, which they now intend to win primarily on the ideological front. Loser defeated and want a rematch. Their initiatives have become part of the public policies of individual countries. But I am deeply convinced that people’s memory is to win in our days,” — said the Belarusian President.
Note that in Ukraine today officially commemorated the Day of mourning and honoring the memory of the victims of war. It is set in the year 2000. 11 years later, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a resolution according to which on this day is a moment of silence and prispuskaya flags at public institutions.
