U.S.: Russia wants to gain a foothold on the southern flank of NATO at the expense of lives of Libyans

Russia is trying to secure its military presence on the southern flank of NATO, increasing the activity in Libya. This was stated by the African command of the US Armed forces, reports “Voice of America”.

Russia actively uses aircraft deployed to Libya in late may to support private military companies, said the Africa command. It also indicates that features photographs of the Russian plane departing from El Dzhufra, as well as a photo of MiG-29 aircraft operating in the vicinity of Sirte.

Russia’s Actions in Libya “promotes violence and postpones a political solution,” believe in the United States. According to the American side, “the Russian Federation is committed to strategically gain a foothold on the southern flank of NATO at the expense of the lives of Libyans.”

Earlier African command announced that 14 MiG-29 and some Sukhoi su-24 was transferred from Russia to Syria, and then sent to Libya in violation of the UN embargo.
