South America has become the new epicenter of disease caused by coronavirus. This was stated by the Director of the who programme on emergency health Michael Ryan.
“We are seeing a lot of South American countries with a growing number of cases of infection”, he said, noting that the most affected among them is Brazil.
It is reported that there has registered more than 290 thousand confirmed cases of infection with coronavirus and approximately 19 thousand deaths. Most of the infected identified in the region of San Paolo, but there are also cases in the States of Rio de Janeiro, Pernambuco, Amazonas. In the past, according to Ryan, the fairly high prevalence (number of cases at the moment of the population) — 490 people per 100 thousand of population.
Ryan noted that who provides support of Brazil and the Brazilian States most affected by COVID-19.
According to the Johns Hopkins University, in Brazil registered 330,8 thousand infected with a coronavirus. In his ranking, it came in second place, ahead of Russia (326,4 thousand cases according to 22 may).
